Supporting Families Through Challenging Conversations

Description

We have all been there. Sitting in a family’s home and uncertain what to say next. Sometimes the conversations include tears, as a family struggles with their child’s diagnosis or delays. Sometimes the conversations include anger, as we deliver news of concerns. Sometimes the conversations include silence.

This workshop will help providers of all disciplines understand how to discuss sensitive topics, while supporting families. Participants will learn core elements in having challenging conversations, including how to talk about making a child abuse/neglect report, supporting a family after receiving a diagnosis or difficult IFSP meeting, and sharing concerns regarding services (e.g., lack of parental involvement, additional therapies or testing potentially needed, missed appointments, services concluding).
