Fall 2013 Changes with EITP Online Trainings

The Early Intervention Training Program is making some changes with their system for delivering online training. The first of many improvements to come is a transition to a new learning management system called Moodle.  In order to assist our online learners with this transition we have provided answers to some frequently asked questions we anticipate receiving which can be found on this page.

  1. When will this transition happen?
  2. What will be different?
  3. What will happen to the current events I am in the process of completing?
  4. What about my certificates? Will I still have access to them?
  5. Will I still be able to review online training content as a resource?
  6. How will I access online trainings in the future?
  7. What if I haven't completed an online training in the last 12 months and/or I don't receive a prompt from Moodle to set up my password?
  8. Will I have to wait a business day to access an online training every time I register for an online training event?
  9. I just got my Moodle account confirmation email. Now where do I go?
  10. Will there still be a 2 step registration process for online trainings?
  11. Will there be quizzes and assignments in the online trainings?
  12. What if I don't pass the quiz on the first attempt?
  13. How will I access my certificate of completion in the new system?
  14. Who can I contact if I need help?
  15. Will I be able to access the online training at any time of day with the new system?
  16. What will the system requirements be to access the online trainings?

When will this transition happen?

The current online training offerings will be transitioned to a new platform called Moodle so that all online offerings are transitioned to the new system by November 1, 2013.  On October 22, 2013 we temporarily closed registration for all EITP sponsored online trainings in order to ensure existing participants had the opportunity to finish what they started before the transition to the new system occurred.  We expect to re-open registration for all EITP online training sponsored events no later than November 1, 2013.

What will be different?

For now the modules will look similar but there will be a new system tracking the progress of online learners. The new system will require a Moodle account with a unique user name and password. When you login to Moodle the interface will look different but just like the Adobe platform we have been using you will only see the events that you have registered for. It is our hope that our online learners will experience fewer technical difficulties within this new system and that your learning experience may be enhanced with new interactive features we hope to embed into our online offerings in the future.

What will happen to the current events I am in the process of completing?

If you are currently enrolled and in progress in an online training you will have until 10/28/13 to finish up the trainings you are working on. Any training you do not finish prior to this date will require you to start over within the new system should you choose to continue the event at a later date.

What about my certificates? Will I still have access to them?

Prior to 10/28/13 you must print any/all certificates of completion you have earned through our online offerings if you have not done so already. If you fail to print your certificate prior to 10/28/13 and need one for credentialing you may request a duplicate certificate for a processing fee of $10.

Will I still be able to review online training content as a resource?

After 10/28/13 you will no longer have access to login and view or review online content in the old system. The EI Training Program is working to make all online training content available in a "resource only" version so that content can be viewed as a resource without credit. Once the resource versions of online content are available they will be posted on the EI Training website.

How will I access online trainings in the future?

All users will need an account with Moodle in order to login and access training events. The EI Training Program is currently working on a process to import names and email addresses for online learners who have accessed an online training offered by us in the last 12 months. If we create your account you will get an email from us prompting you to set up your password. We will provide more information about how and when this is going to happen as it becomes available.

What if I haven't completed an online training in the last 12 months and/or I don't receive a prompt from Moodle to set up my password?

If a Moodle account is not created for you then you will be prompted to create one the next time you register for an online training event offered by the EI Training Program if/when that event has been converted to the Moodle learning management system. Currently this requires manual approval and we will make every effort to process your request within one business day. Once your request has been processed you will receive a confirmation email from us with your user name and a temporary password. If you don't receive an email from us in your inbox within two business days of requesting a Moodle account then please check your spam folder.

Will I have to wait a business day to access an online training every time I register for an online training event?

No. The process for creating a new Moodle account only has to happen once and when you have a Moodle account established you will use that login information for all future online offerings that you register for through the EI Training Program.

I just got my Moodle account confirmation email.  Now where do I go?

Within 2 business days of requesting a Moodle account you will receive a confirmation email informing you that your account has been created with a temporary password.  You will need to login and set a new and unique password for your account and then you will be taken to your Moodle "home" page.  Since this is your first time in Moodle you will not have any courses listed on your "home" page. You will need to go back to the confirmation email you received from the EI Training Program for the event you registered for and click on the URL for the course.  The first time you login to the course you will be required to enter the unique enrollment key that accompanied your confirmation email.  Once you enter the enrollment key you will be allowed to enter the course.  After you enter the enrollment key you will receive one more confirmation email with a reminder to keep the link to the URL for future access to the course you registered for.

Will there still be a 2 step registration process for online trainings?

No. As long as you have a Moodle account you will receive a confirmation email with the link to login and access the event. The only time there is a two step process is if you are a first time user to Moodle because you will need to create an account before you will gain access to the online event. Please note that the EI Training Program website includes training events by other sponsoring organizations so the information provided herein only applies to events sponsored by the EI Training Program at the University of Illinois.

Will there be quizzes and assignments in the online trainings?

Online trainings will have periodic quizzes that will check for understanding. Quiz questions are randomized and participants are expected to have all questions answered correctly before they can receive a certificate of completion. Some events will include multiple places where we check for understanding and online learners may not move on from one section to another until they have demonstrated their knowledge. Quiz questions will be selected at random.

What if I don't pass the quiz on the first attempt?

The objective of the quiz is to check for understanding. When an online participant does not answer all questions correctly they will be informed as to which responses were correct and which ones were incorrect. Then the learner may review the content and make another attempt at the quiz. Currently there is no limit on the number of attempts that can be made as the objective is for the learner to have the knowledge they need to be successful in their work with children and families in early intervention.

How will I access my certificate of completion in the new system?

Once all modules/courses , assignments and/or quizzes are successfully completed participants will be required to complete a training evaluation. The EI Training Program will review training evaluations and generate certificates of completion on a daily basis and online learners can expect to receive their certificate via email within 2 business days of the day they completed the online training. We are currently working on a process to generate certificates immediately upon completion and we appreciate your patience with us during this transition.

Who can I contact if I need help?

For now you may continue to email us at onlinelearning@illinoiseitraining.org when you have questions related to an online training event you are working on.  We will also work to update the FAQ pages on our website periodically so you may find answers to some of your questions on our website.

Will I be able to access the online training at any time of day with the new system?

Yes. Once you register for the online training and have an active Moodle account you can log in and complete the training anytime it is convenient for you. Your training is self-directed and self-sustained, which means that you access Moodle at your own convenience, but please be aware that technical support will not be available during non business hours.

What will the system requirements be to access the online trainings?

Flash Version 9 or better will still be required to play the online modules as the modules themselves have not changed (just the system for collecting information and tracking our online participants has changed). Flash can be downloaded from adobe.com at no charge. Please keep in mind that this excludes ipads and iphones and other devices that don't support flash.
