Shifting Gears: Sound and Movement Strategies for Sensory Processing Dysfunction

Description

Think you know Quickshifts? Binaural beats and entrainment is only the beginning. What about the connection between music, movement, physiology, social interaction, cognition, and self regulation? Novices and those experienced with Quickshifts are invited to attend our new course. Gain a greater ability to evaluate movement to precisely match music to improve self regulation from a multi-system approach. Master the sound AND movement strategies that support all levels of self-regulation— sensory modulation, behavioral control, social interaction, and executive functioning. For children and adults alike being able to achieve, monitor, and shift states of alertness is necessary to set the nervous system up for success. In addition the ability to gain access to whole brain function further promotes the ability for sensory processing, self-regulation, and optimal learning states.

This one-day workshop will explore several practical sound and movement tools to quickly shift states of arousal and access whole brain processing. Learn how to assess and create simple, practical programs that shift kids into “just right” states of arousal, immediately improve bilateral motor coordination, visual and auditory attention, and whole brain processing. Through hands-on demonstrations and video case examples, we will focus on simple vestibular, proprioceptive, auditory, and visual activities that can be performed in any environment to support whole brain processing. We will also explore the “Quickshifts”, music albums that capitalize on the powerful impact of binaural beat technology and musical entrainment. These sound tools “engine changers” are a practical addition to clinic, home and school environments to support an individual’s ability to match their optimal state of arousal to task and environmental demands.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Assess an individual’s bilateral motor coordination, state regulation, and whole brain processing through movement and clinically based observation assessment tools and relate to functional difficulties of client

• Identify three movement activities that support vestibular, proprioceptive, auditory, and visual functioning

• Match “Quickshift” albums to client’s clinical picture, goals, and functional outcomes
