Description

Cortical Visual Impairment ( CVI), has been identified as one of the leading causes of visual impairment in children. Data from Babies Count: The National Registry for Children with Visual Impairments, Birth to 3 Years at the American Printing House shows that CVI is one of the top three were the three more prevalent diagnoses amount infants and toddlers who are visually impaired. As increasing numbers of children are diagnosed with this condition, the importance of understanding CVI, its implications and the development of effective strategies’ have become paramount. These children need immediate referral to early intervention and early childhood special education programs, so they can receive support from providers with specialized expertise. In this training, parent, educators and early intervention providers will learn strategies for working with families of children with CVI, learn about the use of technology that can be used in the home, classroom and community, integrating vision into daily routines and activities. and the need for collaboration among teachers of children with visual impairments, early interventionists, medical professionals and family members.
