Out of the Shadows: Child Physical Abuse Assessment and Intervention

Description

It’s often a struggle to know what the right intervention is when professional concerns arise about a parent or child’s behavior. As a supportive professional, it can be uncomfortable to raise these concerns or consider a report to protective services.

This workshop provides professionals with advanced practice skills in the assessment and intervention of child physical abuse in infants and young children. The training will also provide a framework of how to integrate anticipatory guidance and child abuse prevention tools into your professional practice.

Key topics covered include:

-Understanding the psychosocial “storm fronts” that impact child maltreatment, incidence rates of child abuse, and which children are at the most risk

-Utilizing psychosocial assessment to identify risk and enhance intervention in work with young children and families

-Developing and integrating child abuse prevention information for the children and families you serve

-Assessing child maltreatment based on parent reports or clinician observation

-Reporting concerns of child maltreatment to DCFS/police while continuing a therapeutic relationship with the family

-Navigating the child welfare system and provide advocacy for the child and family
