Supporting Developmental Parenting: Engaging Families and Promoting Parent Child Interaction

Description

Dr. Roggman will discuss the principles of Developmental Parenting and how this type of parenting can be promoted in home visiting programs and other early childhood settings. Dr. Roggman will also discuss the use of the Piccolo, an assessment tool that uses observation of positive parenting behaviors in order to give encouraging feedback to parents. Use of observation and videotaping parent-child interactions will also be discussed as a way to promote Developmental Parenting.

Participants in this full day conference will:
• Understand the principles of Developmental Parenting
• Be able identify ways to use observation and feedback to promote Developmental Parenting in early childhood settings including home visiting
• Increase their knowledge of the Piccolo assessment tool
• Identify ways to integrate the Piccolo and Developmental Parenting into their current practice
