Challenging Poverty's Hold

Description

Children and families living in poverty are challenged with multiple risk factors emerging out of poverty's powerful influence. The negative influences of inadequate nutrition, substance abuse, maternal depression, exposure to environmental toxins, trauma/abuse and quality of daily care pose significant impact to the developing brain in young children. While aware of some of these challenges, early childhood educators and other professionals may not have explored how these factors affect children and families and how they are related to poverty in general. Participants in this multi-media hands-on workshop will learn about the impact and begin to discover some ways for successful intervention.
