Congenital Heart Defects in Early Intervention

Description

Congenital heart defects are the #1 birth defect, occurring in 1 of every 100 births. They are the leading cause of death during infancy from a birth defect. Thankfully, advances made in early detection and medical interventions mean that families of babies with CDH are entering into early intervention eager to support their little one's development while they balance their ongoing medical concerns.
This two hour workshop is designed to address the uni1que needs of children and families entering early intervention due to their challenging journey related to their child's congenital heart defect. Topics include review of several of the most common CHDs, terminology, treatments, and implications; transitions from NICU to home, considerations for intake/RBI and evaluation team makeup; addressing unique medical and developmental concern in our system; and supporting parent professional decision making within early intervention principles.
