Linking Sensory Processing to Emotional Processing: Understanding Behavior in Chilcren

Description

This 2-day workshop provides an opportunity for pediatric therapists and educators to discuss several areas of the socio-emotional development in children. The speaker will include background information of different theorists, such as Erikson, Piaget, Vygotski and others. Development will be discussed in detail and emphasis will be given in the share boundaries of sensory and emotional processing. Interventions such as DIR/Floortime, Sand Tray and Attachment work will be included.

This course will provide therapists with that missing link in the global understanding of children. The speaker's practical method of understanding meltdowns and dealing with meltdowns in a way that fosters opportunity for growth has proved successful both locally and internationally. The essence of the course is framed upon having respect for the child, understanding the nature of his/her development from different frames of reference, and being able to apply principles of treatment that would enhance the outcome of the therapist's current treatment plan. This course has been well received by occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech pathologists, psychologists, play therapists, mental health counselors, and special educators.
