Description |
This session will stress the importance of family empowerment when developing listening and spoken language in young children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Attendees will learn specific coaching strategies to use in their sessions with families that will promote parental involvement and self-efficacy.
In Early Intervention, empowerment occurs when a coaching model is used to build collaborative relationships between the parent and the specialist. Presenters will explain how to use a family centered approach established through a comprehensive coaching model to develop and enhance the connection between the parent and the child. Videos will be shown to demonstrate how the coaching process is used in both home and online sessions. Professionals will learn how to guide parents as adult learners to develop their child’s listening and spoken language skills.
