Description |
Every family is unique in the way they define themselves and choose to live their lives and raise their children. Sometimes a situation occurs where the family’s beliefs and the early intervention team’s approach to providing supports and strategies may differ. Occasionally, there are times when research or evidence suggests or recommends something that is in direct opposition to a family’s beliefs or approach. This two hour workshop will cover a variety of potential topics and situations that Service Coordinators may encounter in the field including: sleeping; feeding; limit setting and consequences; developmentally appropriate expectations; and more non traditional approaches, some of which might be viewed as more intense or extreme (attachment parenting, anti vaccination, etc). Group discussion, problem solving and case scenarios will be utilized to help Service Coordinators facilitate respectful, balanced informed decision making with families in the Illinois Early Intervention System.
