Holistic Assessment and Treatment of Stuttering in Young Children

Description

Application of a holistic approach to assessment and treatment for the birth through preschool population will be
outlined in this clinically focused presentation. After presenting foundational material regarding the
definition of stuttering and historical perspectives in stuttering treatment, examination of the affective,
behavioral, cognitive and environmental variables in stuttering will be discussed. Specific and practical
assessment tools and methods will be presented in this workshop. Treatment options, including indirect
and direct treatment models, family education and techniques for fluency shaping therapy and stuttering
modification will be addressed with implications for treatment in the home as well as in the early childhood classroom.
