Creating Sensory Diets

Description

Children with many different challenges such as SPD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and ADHD can experience significant difficulty staying calm and organized throughout their day. Implementing a sensory diet is an effective strategy that is highly individualized, research-driven, and cost-effective. Well-crafted Sensory Diets are most successful when they are embedded within daily routines and meaningful activities. Sensory Diets assist children in modulating their responses, reducing sensory defensiveness, and improving self-organization across settings. It is essential that therapists, educators, and parents feel confident in designing and implementing Sensory Diets to help promote participation and function in the areas of play, fine & gross motor skills, self-care, social interactions, and communication.

This hands-on workshop will provide participants with the necessary background knowledge and most up-to-date tools and resources to create and implement Sensory Diets for the children that they serve. Video case studies and make & take will help translate knowledge into practice for immediate and collaborative learning. Special attention will be given on documentation and goal setting for Early Intervention, IEPs and private practice.
