10th Annual Empowering Professionals Conference

Description

Pre-registration is required for this one-day conference featuring a Keynote Presentation by Dana Childress, M.Ed., entitled “The Realities and Wonders of Early Intervention Today”. Dana has worked in the field of early intervention for over 20 years as an early childhood special educator, service coordinator, supervisor, trainer, and writer. Her interests and passion include adult learning, family centered practices, supporting family implementation of intervention strategies, and finding ways to help bridge the research to practice gap through interactive professional development for early intervention service coordinators and practitioners.

This keynote will explore the reality of being an early interventionists today! It’s a reality that being an early interventionist is full of challenges: our practices are changing, there are provider shortages and budget shortfalls, we have tons of paperwork, and of course, every visit is a true adventure. It’s also full of wonder, too. You have the opportunity to touch the lives of children and families in ways that last a lifetime. Every day is different, each with its own little gifts. Let’s take some time to acknowledge the realities and celebrate the wonders because when it’s all said and done, what you do really matters, and that’s the most important wonder of all.

Additional breakout sessions will be available to all participants on a range of topics such as visual systems for young children, the impact of parental mental illness on young children’s development, strategies for your first visits with families, strategies for supporting children with hearing loss, a family’s perspective on early intervention, trauma-informed early intervention, strategies for supporting families coping with feeding challenges, and administrative processes in early intervention.
