How Cued Speech Supports Language Acquisition

This informational workshop will provide a clear explanation of Cued Speech. We will talk about the intended purpose of Cued Speech: providing visual access to English. References to research will be provided and anecdotal information will be shared. We will review the process of language development, literacy, speechreading, auditory skill development, and speech reinforcement and how Cued Speech can support each component. We will also discuss some common myths surrounding the use of Cued Speech as well as demonstrate what Cued Speech looks like and examples of how it can be used in a classroom setting.
