Muscle Energy Techniques for the Pelvis, Sacrum and Lumbar Spine

Description

The emphasis of this two-day course is on a postural evaluation using Fryette’s Laws of spinal motion as a basis for evaluation and treatment of the pelvis, sacrum and lumbar spine. It is composed of a coordinated series of muscle contractions in controlled directions at very low levels of intensity. Positional and isometric contraction techniques enhance regional and local joint mobility. It releases protective muscle spasm present in neuromuscular dysfunction. The result is an increase in mobility and range of motion, restoration of articular balance, improved postural alignment and pain reduction.

Goals for this course include:
Students will learn how to perform an accurate structural and postural exam.
Students will learn indications and contraindications of the muscle energy techniques.
Students will learn the appropriate diagnostics for the pelvis, sacrum and lumbar spine as basis for choosing the correct treatment technique presented in this course.
Students will develop an appropriate strengthening program related to corrected structural dysfunction.
Students will determine adjunctive treatment techniques to enhance the full potential of the corrected dysfunction.
