Flight, Flight or Freeze: Anatomy of a Meltdown

Description

A meltdown is not easy for anyone to experience. In this session we’ll take the stance that all behavior has meaning and that it’s our job to support and help care giving adults to figure it out. In this session we’ll use a neuro/sensory perspective to better understand the triggers of a child’s meltdown and the ways in which we can help. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, frustrated and even angry when a child is having a meltdown. We will discuss the felt experience of what happens to the body when feeling overwhelmed, under attack and helpless. We’ll identify which diagnoses are more prone to having meltdowns. And we will use real life stories as a means to practice identifying triggers and discussing practical intervention strategies.
