Ankle Foot Orthoses: Patient Evaluation & Design Criteria

This dynamic 1 hour course is designed to present a holistic, patient/family-centric, team-based, inclusive approach to the decision-making process related to the prescription of lower extremity orthosis for the 0-3 year old early intervention population. The instructors are orthotists who will share an approach to orthotic management developed to improve clinical outcomes in this population. They will present current researched based evidence toward orthotic prescription and will provide an overview of available orthoses and focus on the use of observational gait assessment using slow motion video capture, assessment of available lower extremity (LE) orthosis and recommendations based on muscle length, stiffness, strength, and LE orthotic alignment as it relates to choosing the appropriate orthosis/footwear combinations. This course is designed for the physical therapist and physical therapy assistant working in early intervention seeking tools toward making the best decisions in regard to achieving the physical and gross motor potential of any child.
