Description: Pediatric palliative services consist of a specially trained pediatric team that provides the care, support and guidance families need when they are faced with a child who has been given a diagnosis that is chronic, life limiting and potentially life ending. Dedicated to supporting the entire family, these supports can include: Pain and symptom management; Family counseling; Teaching tips and support for the family to help better care for their child at home; Emotional and spiritual counseling; Help in obtaining medications, supplies and equipment for the child; Assistance with the child’s day-to-day needs, such as feeding and bathing; Coordination of care with the child’s other healthcare providers; Supportive services for the child’s siblings; Nutritional counseling and management of tube feedings; Integrative therapies, such as art, music and massage. This two hour workshop will provide Service Coordinators with an overview of palliative care as it relates to current families they are working with in early intervention who also receive palliative care as well as explore potential referrals in the future.
