Parent Empowerment Through Understanding Self Regulation

Description

Abilities, perceptions, behaviors, strengths and challenges all result from each person's unique brain wiring. In this workshop we will discuss and weave together some of these many neurological processes. In doing so, we can begin to understand the complex interplay of these processes and how they may influence observable behaviors and everyday abilities.
We will do our best to talk about them in everyday language, so that a person not formally trained in this field would have an easier time understanding their impact. In this way, we hope to transfer this information to parents so that they may become more empowered observers and advocates for their child's needs, as well as more acute observers of their child's strengths.
We will define and discuss the elements which contribute to functional and adaptable self regulation. These include but are not limited to ; sensory processing, executive functions and environmental supports and/or challenges.
