The Test of Infant Motor Performance: From Research to Practice

Description

The Test of Infant Motor Performance (TIMP) is test of functional motor behavior in infants from 34 weeks postmenstrual age through 4 months post-term. The TIMP can be used both in special care nursery settings and in early intervention programs, facilitating communication among caregivers in different settings. TIMP items are related to demands for movement placed on infants during daily life interactions. Thus the test is an assessment of the posture and movement skills needed by infants for daily life activities.

This training is two-day intermediate level course designed for physical therapists and occupational therapists working with infants under 5 months of age. The course includes didactic information covering the test psychometrics, the research associated with the development of the TIMP. To increase the relevancy of the course to direct clinical application the participants will learn apply the TIMP scoring protocol to infants of various ages videos of infant testing. The course is also designed to make the transition from testing to clinical application through the use of case reports with the opportunity for participants to score additional cases and discuss clinical applications.
