Empathy Workshop

Description

This workshop will serve as Part 2 of a two part series on "operationalizing" empathy. We will be discussing brain science and how humans connect with one another on a meaningful, feeling level. We will consider examples of relationships which may require empathy to keep them on a positive, productive track. We will define empathy, contrast it with sympathy, and examine how disconnected relationships may result when communication is 'broken' by unintended responses or reactions. This workshop will contain numerous opportunities for discussion, solo reflective activities as well as partner and small group discussion. We will be studying the elements which contribute to effective empathy, which results in effective understanding, conflict resolution, and positive relationship building.
In this part 2 of a 2 part series we will delve further into the process of putting empathy into action. Part 2 will contain more active participation by group members in both pairs and small groups.
