Assessing the Needs of the Child with Optic Chiasmatic Pathway Glioma; and a discussion of Medical Diagnostic Evaluations

This is an "in house" training for CFC #15 Service Coordinators during which Dr. Larry Desch will present diagnostic, assessment, treatment information, and resources. The case example of a child with Optic Chiasmatic Pathway Glioma will be presented. Vision and the process of seeing will be discussed. The presentation will consist of overview of visual functioning, visual impairments, assessment, testing, diagnostic considerations, related conditions, treatment, clinical implications, available resources, and assessment of the needs of the child and family in EI. The second hour of the training will focus on the process of Medical Diagnostic Evaluations. This will include a discussion of the components of a medical diagnostic, reasons to refer for a medical diagnostic, the evaluations process, and common diagnoses in EI, including a discussion of the diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder and tools used to assess for ASD.
