Child & Family Connections #15 is hosting a topic driven, ongoing, reflective discussion group open only to CFC #15 providers and service coordinators.
Forming relationships is inherent in providing early intervention services. Consequently, providers will encounter a variety of issues that may influence their assumptions, reactions, beliefs, and ability to understand the needs of the child and family. This will be an ongoing, active discussion group where participants will be expected to share, hear, and learn from their own and others experiences. The goal of this group is to provide a place of support and reflection in order to learn more about yourself as an EI practitioner.
The following topics will be explored during meetings:
1. Introduction to Reflective Practice: What does reflective practice look like? How does it impact you and the families you work with? 1.5 WWF
2. Understanding Perspectives: Yours, the families, the child’s, and other providers. 1.5 WWF
3. Utilizing a Framework or Approach to guide your work. 1.5 WWF
4. How you impact the families you work with: the use of Self. 1.5 WWF
5. Empathy & Listening Skills: Learning the family’s story. 1.5 WWF
6. Team Collaboration and working as part of a team. 1.5 WWF
7. Managing Boundaries and your own feelings. 1.5 WWF
This group will be facilitated by Mary Valerius, CFC #15 SEC, and due to the reflective nature of the group will be limited to 10 participants. Meetings at Bourbonnais Library will be on the 3rd Friday of every other month. Meetings at the CFC office in Joliet will be on the 2nd Thursday of every other month.
