A Diagnosis: Having one, Not Having One, Getting One - What Does It Mean?

Description

Please note immediately that this training is being offered for either the first two hours - and/or - you have the option to stay for the third hour of further / deeper discussion of the topic.

In this workshop we will discuss whys. hows, and when's of children receiving a developmental, medical, or mental health diagnosis. We will discuss the factors that go in to determining a diagnosis, potential variables, as well as the benefits and potential challenges or pitfalls of 'having' a diagnosis.

A diagnosis in Early Intervention or at anytime in a child's life can bring with it a surge of questions, treatment recommendations, and meanings for a family. Having a thorough understanding of the potential impact of this process helps providers and family members stay clear in their course for meeting the child's needs.

Experience in doing trainings and workshops tells us that there are often providers attend and become deeply engaged in the information, and have requested followup discussion or often "stay after" to process 'cases.'
For this reason we have scheduled an optional third hour for those interested in participating in a deeper, structured reflective discussion of the meaning of getting and having a diagnosis - using shared and/or provided case examples for consideration and reflective professional development.
