As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to:
•target behaviors that are developmental and will go away vs. those behaviors that will
continue to get worse over time
• discriminate effective communication strategies from ineffective ones in order to
minimize undesirable behaviors
• practice and demonstrate power struggle avoidance techniques with students with
challenging behaviors
• identify the functions of a student’s behavior by tuning in to one’s own reaction to the
behavior
• troubleshoot breakdowns in own classroom or in others, whether you are an
administrator, teacher, or support staff
