Cultural Sensitivity: Digging Deep to Serve Hispanic Families Effectively

Description

A culturally sensitive perspective changes the way we approach, counsel, support, and provide services to our Hispanic families who have children with hearing loss. Through transformational leadership practices, this presentation guides participants to uncover their personal journey towards cultural competence. Participants will explore individual triggers that negatively impact their ability to provide culturally sensitive services, practice committed listening techniques, identify two opportunities for personal improvement, analyze four case examples, and generate culturally sensitive responses. For culturally sensitive practices to become the crux of our services with the Hispanic community, we must engage in deep introspection so we can effectively relate with this unique population in a culturally competent manner.
