Childhood Apraxia of Speech: Focus on Treatment

Description Children with apraxia of speech typically do not benefit from traditional articulation therapy techniques. This workshop will describe considerations for developing appropriate treatment programs for children with apraxia of speech. Tips and multisensory cueing techniques for helping children with apraxia learn to produce and sequence sounds in order to establish correct production of syllable, words and sentences will be described. Since children with apraxia require opportunities for repeated practice, dozens of materials and activities for encouraging repetitive practice will be shared. The specific needs of children with autism and children with minimal language will also be addressed.
