Working with Children with Special Needs and Their Families: An Intercultural Perspective

Description

Every culture has certain ways in which they parent
and educate their young. In today’s reality of multicultural communities, early
childhood professionals are repeatedly facing the challenge of working not only
with a multiplicity of languages, but also with a variety of cultural values, beliefs
and attitudes of parents. The effectiveness of early childhood professionals
increasingly depends on their ability to navigate through cultural differences. In this interactive workshop, participants will develop an increased awareness of cultural differences crucial for parenting, education and addressing the issues of children with special needs. Participants will also gain an understanding of the challenges and unique opportunities of cross-cultural communication and explore the skills necessary for becoming a culturally competent early childhood professional.
