Real, Everyday Challenges of Home-based Work with Families

Description

The unique role of early intervention professionals in providing home-based guidance to families with infants and toddlers can be rewarding and immensely supportive to families.
But it can also be complex. The nature of home-based work greatly shifts our experiences with the family and can, at times, offer situations or challenges in which we may question possible adjustments in our role and/or how to move ahead or revisit our work with the family from that point on.

In this seminar we will discuss approaches to working through situations with families that are complex including: working with other family members (including grandparetns, caregivers and siblings), families who have difficulty being available for home visits, stressful family situations which are impacting the home setting and the EI work together or families looking for support from us in areas that may be beyond our expertise. Additionally, in our discussion EI providers will have the opportunity to share experiences about current or past situations that they are working through or other scenarios that they feel may be impacting their ability to navigate their professional role.
