Understanding Trauma and Children’s Exposure to Violence

Description

Children’s exposure to violence can range from being abused or neglected to witnessing violence in the home, community, or media. It is important for those who work with children and families to recognize when trauma and exposure to violence are affecting children’s development and behavior and know how to respond. This training helps participants recognize, mitigate, and prevent trauma and exposure to violence. It is based on two curricula: Bringing Kids Back into Focus—Building a Community Response to Children’s Exposure to Violence (Chicago Safe Start) and Trauma 101 (Illinois Department of Children and Family Services).

Created by the aforementioned agencies with the Midwest Learning Center for Family Support, the Illinois Department of Human Services, and the Strengthening Families Illinois Building Resiliency Workgroup, and the Learning Center for Family Support, Family Focus, Inc.
