Effectively Managing ADHD

Description

The treatment of ADHD has historically been dominated by medication management and behavioral counseling. While these strategies are successful with some children, they are increasingly seen as insufficient. It has become apparent that many parents of children diagnosed with ADHD are interested in non-medication treatment options. Reasons for this interest include concerns about the long-term use of stimulant medication as well as a desire to avoid potentially unpleasant side effects. Many parents are also interested in strategies or treatment options that will “fix” the problem rather than simply “masking” or “controlling” it.

Research using a variety of brain-imaging techniques has demonstrated several characteristic patterns associated with ADHD. Knowledge of how the brain is behaving or “mis” behaving can be used to guide and direct the use of creative interventions that have been shown to positively impact ADHD as well as a range of co-morbid concerns, including depression, anxiety, and learning problems.

This seminar recording will focus on the science of brain research as it applies to ADHD and the practical application of interventions to facilitate the effective treatment of ADHD. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of ADHD and gain a set of new interventions and understandings to be used immediately with the children they work with.
