Treatment Strategies and Intervention Methods for Children with Autism and Children prenatally exposed to drugs and alcohol

Description

Dr. Griffith will present information regarding the treatment/caregiving needs of childrenwith sensory processing/sensory regulatory disorders including autism and children prenatally exposed to alcohol, tobacco, and/or other drugs (ATOD) Specific treatment methods and strategies will be reviewed. A model to assist providers and parents in better understanding the self regulatory functions that various behaviors in children serve. Specific methods for assisting children of various ages in reaching and maintaining their optimal levels of arousal so that they are more available for learning and interacting and more capable of following rules and routines will be presented. Emphasis will be placed on helping children to develop more efficient and more appropriate self-regulatory strategies.
