Medication 101: Understanding the Basics of Psychiatric Medication

Description

Clinicians with a greater understanding of psychiatric medications broaden their capacity to engage with clients, families, and prescribers. In this workshop, the presenter will not take sides in the controversy of psychotropic medication use, but will provide the audience an opportunity to more fully understand a prescriber's perspective. This workshop offers the non-medical provider basic information about the multiple classes of medication used to treat psychiatric illness. The material will include medications commonly used to treat children with behavioral health issues and psychiatric symptoms, with some focus on medication use during pregnancy. Target symptoms, side effects, dose ranges and basic information on how the medications work will be discussed.
