Description |
Emotions are a function of the nervous system. They are a powerful influence on early brain development. When this information is more fully understood by the people who care for and work with young children, the observation of emotional displays may be used as a means to interpret their behavior. The role of the stress response system will be introduced as a means to support alternative interpretations of behavior from a neuroscience perspective. The importance of cue reading will be examined as a window into understanding each child’s unique sensory-neurological profile. The ways in which this information can be utilized to modify and adapt environments (which include interpersonal relationships), individualize intervention, caregiving, and teaching strategies in the service of fostering optimal development in young children will be discussed. Both of Ms. Rosinia’s presentations can be taken separately. However, it is highly recommended that participants consider taking these two presentations together.
