Early Childhood Development: Infancy

Description

The purpose of this training is to provide family support professionals with a foundational overview of early childhood development during the first year of life.

Historically infants have been underestimated in their capacities to learn from and interact with the important people in their lives. Scientists and researchers now realize what parents have known for years: babies are quick learners! This training introduces staff to infant development in the first 12 months of life. During the course of this training, family support professionals explore many aspects of infant development, including all of the essential developmental domains, brain development, infant states and regulation, temperament, attachment, and the infant’s need for social and emotional connections. Participants are encouraged to examine infant development through the eyes the baby, using the lens of family and culture, biology, and environmental influences.
