Ships Passing in the Day: Working together as an Early Intervention Team with Parents and Other Disciplines

Description

The foundation of early intervention is built with a team model for providing support to a child and family. Almost always providers engage with families at separate times throughout a week or month, making it difficult to collaborate with one another. Occasionally, EI providers may create collaborations from existing relationships, which can enhance the team interactions on behalf of the family.
How do we create these partnerships with one another when they don’t naturally exist? Annuals and 6 month meetings are important opportunities to connect, but don’t substitute for on-going collaboration. This discussion will explore the value of partnering and strategies for working with other team members on behalf of the family/child and strengthening overall support.
IFSP development time, professional development time and strategies for creating meaning conversations with families about how to integrate the services they are receiving will be highlighted.
