Description |
This workshop will cover the topic of how parents and/or other family memebers may express grief around issues related to parenting the child with developmental delays or disabilities. Based on the work of Dr. Ken Moses, we will explore how parents view the process of coming to know their child, and as all parents must, adjust to the process of parenting the child as a unique individual.
We will also cover the topic of defense mechanisms, and how they may be used to manage major stressors. By understanding how defense mechanisms contribute to coping behavior, we can gain greater insight regarding how people may adapt to life challenges.
Understanding each of these psychological processes can help the parent or professional gain increased insight into the unique challlenges which may be present when parenting a child with disabilities, and may have a significant impact on the parent professional relationship.
