Promoting Literacy and Language Development in Families

Description

Infants are born with the need, desire, and ability to communicate. Parents’ responsive relationships with their children nourish successful language development and create one of the earliest opportunities for a parent to have shared, meaningful experiences with their child.

This one day intensive training examines how language develops from an infant’s preverbal communication into the preschooler’s expressive use of language. The training helps staff build an understanding of early speech development, gain experience observing and interpreting parent-child communication style and patterns, and learn about atypical speech development. This training also explores strategies for staff to use with families to promote the value of reading and literacy for both children and parents.
