Strengthening Families Illinois: Understanding Trauma and Children Exposed to Violence

Description

The reality for home visiting professionals is that trauma and violence impact the lives of young children and families. Being equipped to deal with traumatic situations takes skill and understanding. Strengthening Families: Understanding Trauma and Children Exposed to Violence training offers both information and strategies for home visitors to explain trauma and its impact on children, families, and communities. Learners discuss the relationship between trauma and children exposed to violence, describe the possible impact of exposure to trauma or violence on early childhood development, adolescent development, and parenting; and use concrete strategies in home visiting to support children and families who have been exposed to violence and/or experienced trauma.
