Home Visiting Program Strategies

Description

Home visiting is an exciting and convenient way to deliver services to young families, a real opportunity to “meet them where they are”, and experience firsthand the environment in which children are being raised. However, there are also powerful challenges and potentially complex issues that may arise when providing home-based services. The informal home environment is generally contradictory to the more structured and professional atmosphere of a workplace. This training addresses how home visitors create a warm environment where professional work can occur within the context of a family’s home.

This training addresses common family issues such as lack of privacy, uncomfortable environments, multiple family members or friends, participants not available for visits, and health and safety issues. It demonstrates the balance of family support and parent education with professional boundaries and staying safe.
