Taking the Bite Out of Challenging Behaviors

Description

Abbreviated attention spans, high activity levels, and tantrums can be common among young children. Functional assessment is critical in helping adults understand what these challenging behaviors might mean and can be an important step in alleviating them. Research shows that most behavioral interventions fail because reason for the behavior is not considered. Functional assessment helps caregivers and therapists to explore the cause of the behavior when developing an intervention—and to provide parents with a rational basis for such intervention. This workshop explores functional assessment, and offers a step-by-step guide for professionals to use when discussing behaviors and interventions with parents.
