Kankakee Area Reflective Practice Group for EI Professionals

Developing relationships with families is essential in providing early intervention services. In working with young children and families we know that how you are with a family is as important as what you do, and that your relationship with a family impacts their relationship with their child and others. Consequently, it is important for EI professionals to self-reflect on situations they may encounter that can influence their assumptions, reactions, beliefs, biases, and ability to "hold" the experiences of a child and family. The goal of this group is to encourage self-reflection by providing a non-judgmental, safe place to process experiences while listening to and supporting others working in EI. The group will utilize the core characteristics of reflective supervision of collaboration, regularity, and reflection and will be facilitated by Mary Valerius, Social Emotional Consultant for CFC 15.
The following topics and themes will be explored during meetings:

6. Responding to Families in Crisis and the Impact of Trauma and Resilience-1.5 WWF
7. Boundaries: Why do we have them and how do we keep them?-1.5 WWF
8. Grief and loss-1.5 WWF
9. The Language We Use and How It Impacts Families-1.5 WWF
10. Challenges we may encounter in the home: caregiver mental illness, domestic violence, abuse, substance use and abuse, conflict, when and how to call DCFS.-1.5 WWF

Meetings are held at the Bourbonnais Library on the 3rd Friday of every other month. Please contact Mary Valerius if you are interested in participating.
