An in-depth presentation of the various methods and guidelines used in healthcare for presenting and explaining complex and difficult news to family members in Early Intervention and implications for both family and therapists.

Presentation of the Six Steps of SPIKES as it relates empowering both family and therapists to promote meaningful dialogue and discussion to facilitate productive sessions utilizing both short-term and long-term strategies for communication and growth.

Continue the tradition of strength-based approaches to provide therapists with additional tools, approaches, and strategies for handling difficult encounters resulting from presenting complex information with components related to trust, rapport, and self-care.

Emphasis on the practical implications of the approaches discussed of presenting difficult information as it relates to therapy sessions and related fieldwork discussing relevant topics such as resistance, denial, grief, and confusion.
